Good morning, HES!

We hope this email finds you all HEALTHY and WELL!  Thank you to everyone who has been reaching out to our teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week this week.  We miss you all so much, but we all have been feeling the HAWTHORN LOVE!

Below are some important updates:

We hope you enjoyed NATIONAL BOOK WEEK and were able to escape the pandemic and get lost in a great book!  Please enjoy this week’s video of our very own HES EAGLES READING!

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Hawthorn School District 73 will not be offering our summer Hawthorn Enrichment Institute (HEI) or our Hawthorn Music Camps.  Hawthorn School District 73 will be refunding all participants. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Currently, Hawthorn School District 73 is looking into providing other educational experiences during the summer months and details about these new summer opportunities will be shared with all of you as soon as possible.

Thank you for understanding and we wish all of our students and their families a safe and happy summer!

As you may remember, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has provided school districts with a limited number of “Remote Learning Planning Days.” These days allow staff members to spend time engaging in structured training and planning sessions focused on remote learning. Our next Remote Learning Planning Day is scheduled for Friday, May 15th. Our final two planning days for the year are scheduled on Friday, May 22nd and Thursday, May 28th. While live conferencing and other forms of “real-time” communication will not be available on these dates, teachers will post learning plans to support the continuation of routines and structures that help ensure students are learning and connected to school.

The Illinois Department of Human Services has published information on Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) Snap Benefits. This is a special benefit that can help you buy food for your school-age children, who would receive National School Lunch Program free or reduced-priced meals when schools are in session. For more information, please click here. You may also visit or email  DHS.FCS.PEBT@

CLASS PLACEMENT LETTERS: Just a reminder that if you would like to provide information that may be helpful when we are placing your child for next year, please email Dr. Martin and/or Mrs. Hunter by Friday, May 15.  Please do not request a specific teacher.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can do to support you and your family!

Be well, HES Eagles.

Dr. Martin and Mrs. Hunter
