School Creates EMOJIs

Every year at Elementary South the staff develops an artful learning model around a Leonard Bernstein unit as a way to bring the school community together around a common theme. This year, the school’s goal was to create a Habitat of Happiness at South. This was done with staff working on social emotional learning standards, uniting to fight bullying, and most of all encouraging expressions of kindness to one another. To remember the year, students used ceramic tiles to create personalized EMOJIs. The 800 smiling and silly emojis will be publicly displayed at South.

Second Graders Make Connections

As part of our Bernstein Unit, the second grade team worked together to make connections. They worked as teams and as a grade level to learn the importance of communication through non verbal cues. They were able to understand that creating connections is more than just through talking.
