On March 14th fifth grade students visited the Naper Settlement in Naperville. They experienced first-hand how different living during the colonial times was from their lives today! Students watched a demonstration by the blacksmith, printed a stamp at the print shop, made and tasted butter at the halfway house, wrote on slates at the school house and practiced square dancing at the church.
Students have been learning about the colonial days in social studies. Some students also investigated colonial times while reading the novel “Running Out of Time”. Naper Settlement enhances their understanding of this time period by allowing them to actually experience it.
