Last week the 3rd grade went on a field trip to Ryerson Woods Conservation Area. The purpose of the field trip was to learn about the prairie and the organisms that live there. The trip was very hands on and enabled students to touch and feel plants and animals living on the prairie. Students explored parts of the prairie by going on a scavenger hunt and looking for plants and animals. Students also observed a real live screech owl and discussed its adaptations. They dug into owl pellets and felt various wings and bones, to develop a better understanding of adaptions. In addition, students put together food chains from different habitats.
